Sacred Heart Model School’s Junior Kindergarten program is designed for children who have been in a preschool environment for multiple years, who miss the August 1 birthdate or need that extra year of social and emotional growth, and who are ready to participate in an advanced Pre-Kindergarten program. The structure mirrors a Kindergarten classroom in layout, schedule and curriculum.
Our unique JK program provides a learning experience that meets the individual needs of each child academically, socially and emotionally, promoting academic success while bolstering a sense of self-confidence and accomplishment. Taught in small groups, theme-based learning includes language arts, math, science, multi-cultural social studies, and enrichment in visual arts, music, mind-body connection and integrated classroom technology. As a candidate for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), SHMS’s educational model is focused on the attributes of 21st century learning, placing strong emphasis on problem solving, critical thinking, collaborative group work and social responsibility.
This five-day program is a collaborative effort between faculty and administrators at both Sacred Heart Preschool and Sacred Heart Model School. In a caring environment, children are guided through a developmentally appropriate curriculum that lays the foundation for a successful transition into kindergarten.
