Sacred Heart Model School offers a nurturing and foundational Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten experience for our young learners. We take a multi-sensory approach to academic units developed by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme that integrates and emphasizes free play – one of the best ways for students to discover and learn in a self-guided atmosphere.

Small group, theme-based learning includes language arts, math, science, and multi-cultural social studies. We have purposeful centers that engage the students and differentiate based on their needs and strengths. Our language and literacy development includes communicating through reading, writing, listening, talking, and PLAY.

We enhance learning with integrated classroom technology and enrichment classes in the mind-body connection, STEM, world language, library, and PE, all of which align with the classroom units of study. Students also learn visual arts, music, dance, and drama from talented instructors at Sacred Heart School for the Arts.

Teachers augment religious instruction with the ‘Catechesis of the Good Shepherd’ weekly class led by an Ursuline Sister where children experience the Lord’s gifts through a contemplative listening of the Word and active participation in the Sacraments of His Presence. We also expose students to stewardship through monthly service lessons.

Together, these elements create an environment where each class becomes a family that learns and explores together. Our programs jumpstart our students’ primary education adventure and inspire a genuine love for learning.

Each classroom is a welcoming space that puts students (and parents) at ease with a soft, home-like feel and child-sized features that make the room fun and functional. There is a place for exploring, building, dramatic play, art, puzzles, reading, and more with designated learning centers, specialized stations, and cozy nooks.

Kindergarten

SHMS offers three Kindergarten classrooms, each with 15-17 students, one teacher, and a full-time educational assistant. Our Kindergarteners learn routines and how to be successful students for years to come. By laying the proper foundation for a child’s success, we prime them for accomplishing great academic strides for years to come.

Junior Kindergarten

Our JK program is designed for children who have been in a preschool environment for multiple years, are ready for an advanced Pre-Kindergarten program, and miss the August 1 birthdate, or need an extra year of social and emotional growth. The structure mirrors a Kindergarten classroom in layout, schedule, and curriculum. We guide the children through a developmentally appropriate curriculum in a caring environment that lays the foundation for a successful transition into Kindergarten.
